Who operates this site

The Marginalia operates themarginaliamedia.com. Questions about this policy or your information can be sent to hello@themarginaliamedia.com.

Information you provide

We collect information you choose to provide when you subscribe to The Letter or send a message through the contact form. Depending on the form, this may include your name, email address, and message.

Please do not submit sensitive personal, financial, medical, or account information through the general contact form.

Information collected automatically

This site is hosted on WordPress.com and uses Jetpack services. WordPress.com, Jetpack, and related services may automatically collect technical and usage information such as your IP address, browser and device information, language, referring page, pages viewed, links clicked, and the date and time of your visit. They may use cookies, pixels, and similar technologies for site operation, security, analytics, and email delivery.

More information is available in the Automattic Privacy Policy, Automattic Cookie Policy, and Jetpack Privacy Center.

How information is used

  • To deliver The Letter and other communications you requested
  • To respond to questions, support requests, and business inquiries
  • To operate, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the site
  • To understand general site and email performance
  • To prevent spam, abuse, or unlawful activity
  • To comply with legal obligations and enforce site terms

Newsletter subscriptions

The Letter is managed through the WordPress.com and Jetpack newsletter system. When you subscribe, your email address and subscription status are processed through those services. Email-only subscribers may be asked to confirm their address before receiving messages. Each email includes a way to unsubscribe or manage delivery preferences.

Contact form submissions

Contact form submissions are stored in this site’s WordPress database and may be emailed to the site owner. The submission may include your name, email address, message, IP address, timestamp, and user-agent information. If Akismet spam protection is enabled, submission data may be processed by Akismet for spam screening.

Service providers and sharing

Information may be processed by service providers that help host, secure, analyze, and operate the site or deliver email. The principal provider is Automattic, which operates WordPress.com and Jetpack. Information may also be disclosed when required by law, to protect rights or safety, or in connection with a future business transfer.

The Marginalia does not sell personal information. We do not share contact or subscriber information with unrelated third parties for their own direct marketing.

Affiliate links and external sites

Some resource pages include affiliate links. If you click one, the retailer or affiliate network may receive information such as referral data and may set its own cookies. Purchases and information you provide on an external site are governed by that site’s privacy policy. The Marginalia does not receive your full payment-card details from those retailers.

Retention

Subscriber information is retained while your subscription is active and as needed to maintain suppression or unsubscribe records. Contact form submissions are kept only as long as reasonably needed to respond, maintain business records, prevent abuse, or meet legal obligations. Technical information may be retained according to the policies of WordPress.com, Jetpack, and other service providers.

Your choices

  • Use the unsubscribe or preference link in any newsletter email.
  • Adjust or block cookies through your browser, understanding that some site features may not work as intended.
  • Ask to access, correct, or delete information held directly by The Marginalia, subject to legal and operational limits.

To make a privacy request, email hello@themarginaliamedia.com. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request.

Children’s privacy

This site is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has submitted information, contact us so it can be reviewed and deleted where appropriate.

International processing

Because the site uses global service providers, information may be processed in countries other than the one where you live. Those providers use their own safeguards and policies for international data processing.

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated as the site, its services, or legal requirements change. The updated date at the top will show when the policy was last revised.
